Week 5's rookie WR story starts in Pittsburgh. With already on IR and exiting with a dislocated finger, Germie Bernard stepped into a featured role opposite — and fed him.

Bernard posted 6 catches for 80 yards on 9 targets, plus 1 carry for 4 yards — 10 total opportunities, a class-leading 29.0% target share, and 92% of Pittsburgh's offensive snaps (55 snaps) on 31 Steelers pass attempts. That is 14.4 PPR, the best fantasy line among 2026 rookies in Week 5, and a clean reversal of the Week 2–4 narrative that his early usage was a mirage. College profile·

Rodgers on Bernard
“I'm proud of the way Pat [Freiermuth] played and proud of the way Germ [Bernard] played.”

— Aaron Rodgers, postgame press conference after Steelers 34–22 win over Colts

That quote lands harder if you know Rodgers' history with rookies — and the bar he set for Bernard in camp. Bernard has told reporters Rodgers pulled him aside early and laid out the terms:

“If you want to be able to play with me, these are the things that you need to know. You need to learn how to think like this. You need to know what to do after this. You need to know what to think in these circumstances.”

— Aaron Rodgers to Germie Bernard, training camp (via Bernard to The Athletic)

The trust test kept going into Week 5. Steelers WR coach Adam Henry said Rodgers tried to stump Bernard in Thursday practice — and the rookie answered:

“I think Aaron quizzed him on something [on Thursday] and [Bernard] knew it. It was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ [Rodgers] was trying to get him, but [Bernard] got it.”

— Adam Henry, Steelers WR coach (Friday before Week 5)
